White Pepper


White pepper comes from berries that are picked at full ripeness. These berries are then soaked in water to ferment. Finally, the outer layer is removed leaving only the inner seed. Due to skin removed, some of the flavor is taken, including the piperine. That's why White pepper to be more mild than black pepper.

Cultivation and Production: India is among the top five White pepper exporters & producers in the world. Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are the state that produces white pepper in India.

In India it is harvested during December to January in plains and January to April in the high ranges of western Ghats.

Usage :

  • White pepper is used as a flavoring agent, which is added to foods and drinks to add flavor.

  • The essential oil can be extracted from whole white peppercorns by crushing them and it is used in aromatherapy.
