Chilli is the fruit of the Capsicum plant. The native home of chilli is considered to be Mexico with secondary origin of Guatemala.


Botanical Name: Capsicum frutescens

Common Name: Mirchi, Pepper, Chilli, Ghost pepper


Cultivation and Production: India is the largest producer and exporter of chilli, and Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat are the states that cultivate chilli.

In India, it is mainly harvested in January and February.


Availability: Round the year.
